Mean Girls?

I recently ย realized that I completely forgot to post a painting that I completed at least 2 months ago. So from the archives, here it is! Let’s start with the progression of the background.

Progression of the background

Then I added these three lovely ladies on the middle panel.

Don't they kind of remind you of the movie Mean Girls?
Don’t they kind of remind you Mean Girls? Oh Regina George…

Don’t know about you, but I secretly love that movie. I think it’s just beyond hilarious. And it pretty much marks the point before Lindsay Lohan lost it! Anyways, this painting really had nothing to do with that movie, nor was it inspired by it in any sense, but I was just reminded of it now for whatever reason. The ladies in this painting are intended to be ‘nice girls’ not ‘mean girls’ ๐Ÿ™‚

And here you have the finished painting:

Acrylic on three 12x16" canvases. Total size 36x12"
Acrylic on three 12×16″ canvases. Total size 36×12″

As a side note, you may have noticed all these annoying little ads all over my site recently. I’m new to this whole internet blogging world and only recently learned that you can actually make some money with advertising. I never understood how bloggers made money online (without actually selling a product or service) but turns out that online ads is how it’s done. Now unless you get some outrageous number of page hits a day (which I certainly do not!) you’re not going to get rich with this, but I’m hoping it will cover the cost of hosting my website (about $150 a year) and maybe a couple bottles of paint.

If you’re curious/nosy, at the end of every month, I’ll do a post outlining how much I made with these ads. I know I’m totally curious since everyone in the blogging world seems to keep this as some giant secret. So far I’m at $0.55! HAHA Getting rich fast, eh!?

If you are not a fan of this whole internet advertising thing, then simply don’t click on the ads. I only get a commission if you actually click on an ad so you can still visit here often without filling my pockets with money. On the contrary, feel free to help make me rich and click away! I’m sure there are some riveting advertisements popping up!!! haha

Love your painting! The side panels are the crowd on each side of the runway?

      Thank you !
Actually, I imagined that the ladies were walking down a street in the city and the side panels are the buildings, but since this is an abstract painting it can be anything and I’m really enjoying your interpretation of it ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, I say it was a runway, too!
I am interested in hearing more about your blog money-making experience, and happy to hear that I’m not the only one encountering it as a big, darn secret. Even my best friend won’t clue me in on it! Best of luck

      Hi Renate,
Come back in a month and I will reveal all the big secrets! haha I guess some people do this as a full time job so they consider it similar to talking about their income, which can be considered tacky. The way I see it, I want to be honest with my readers and this is in no way my main source of income but rather a way to (help) pay for this hobby.

I’m curious, too. I tried ads on my old blog and maybe nobody ever clicked on them, but I didn’t make even a penny. LAME.

Anyway. This is a great blog! Thanks for visiting the Jenn stories. I’m glad you found something you liked. Feel free to come back often. ๐Ÿ™‚

Not even a penny eh? That’s really too bad. Are you sure you set them up properly? I’m using Google AdSense. I haven’t looked into any of the other companies yet, mainly because I heard that this is the best one. I’ve made a few pennies so far so maybe by the end up of the month I’ll be able to get some paint!!! I’m running low on purple and orange, so fingers crossed haha Anyways, come back in a month and I’ll have a full report posted ๐Ÿ™‚
And you have a great site. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be successful with advertising ๐Ÿ™‚

Love both the piece and the info too! Being ” on a Budget” I’ve been looking into the ad aspect of it as well. Look forward to see what you find out.
Also, donno what the tax situation is in Canada but here in the States I spoke with my tax lady and she said if you make as little as a dollar (or .55? ๐Ÿ˜‰ you can count expenses paid/supplies bought for the site as a deduction on your taxes.
    Just FYI… ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks, that’s really good to know. I actually never even considered writing any of my expenses off before but definitely need to look into this!

I’m happy to share what I learn on my site so hope it helps you too. I will admit though, that I like the way my site looked without all the cluttering of the ads so I’ll have to weigh the pros and cons once I have a few months of data to go off of.

And yes, we all have some kind of talent. I think the key is to discover what that talent is and embrace it ๐Ÿ™‚

I like the painting, I actually thought they were walking down a runway. Funny you mentioned Mean Girls, I just quoted that yesterday. “I used to be home schooled.” “Eww” ๐Ÿ™‚

Haha soooo many great quotes from that movie! I’m embarrassed to admit how many I use… “On Wednesdays, we wear pink!”
