I‘ve got some exciting news to share with you all, especially those in and around Ottawa. You may remember several months ago I blogged about the London Timeraiser? Well, I’m going to be part of the Ottawa Timeraiser that’s coming up on November 23rd, 2013 in Ottawa, Ontario at the Lebreton Gallery at the Canadian War Museum.
What is a Timeraiser? Here’s a short video clip from their website.
Basically the gist of it is this:
- the organization purchases art work from local emerging artists at market value before the event
- the day of the event, attendees meet with local non-profits that they would like to volunteer their time with
- attendees then bid (silent-auction style) their time (instead of $$$) on the artwork
- attendees have a year to complete their hours and then they receive their winning piece of artwork
What an incredible idea. I’m beyond thrilled to have been selected once again for such an event. The only unfortunate thing is that that same night is my Ritual Calling of an Engineer ceremony. [For all non-Canadians who have no idea what I’m talking about, read here]. I’ve been looking forward to this day for many years now so I will inevitably be getting my ring and then celebrating that evening with fellow graduating engineers. However, the Timeraiser will go on without me and I encourage you ALL to go, especially if you’re looking to get involved in the community and want to score some original artwork. Tickets are available here. Oh and my parents will probably drop by for a bit so be sure to say hi to them if you’re there 🙂
Now the exciting part. Check out some of the artwork that will be available at the upcoming Ottawa event here. My painting that was selected is the one of the Alexandra Bridge.
Have you attended a Timeraiser before? What do you think of the concept? I attended once before I actually participated in it, then participated in one before this. Both experiences were very rewarding. I love the idea of the event from both an artist and attendee perspective.
