Rainy Night in NYC

Not too long ago, I spent the weekend in NYC. It was the rainiest weekend ever. This resulted in a lot of indoor activities. Luckily art galleries are generally indoors.

We went to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) among other places, hoping to get inspired to paint. If I’m being completely honest (which I am) I’ll admit that I was quite disappointed by the lack of actual paintings there. Maybe I’m just not up to speed with modern art, but the majority of the art work there was just strange.

I wish I took more pictures… a particular exhibit stands out. There was a piece that took step-by-step photographs of an old man wearing tighty whities getting an erection. Now this is a family place. I was really hoping a child would ask their parents what that is because that would have been some solid entertainment. I’m too much of a prude to put a picture of it on my blog, but I’m sure you could find it with a quick Google search (NSFW).

A painting I did enjoy was Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. And I even snapped a picture for you.

Since returning from the trip, I’ve been doing lots of painting. Starry Night plus a rainy weekend in NYC inspired this piece, which I’ve affectionately named Rainy Night in NYC.

I’ve been to and enjoyed the MoMA, but I agree that some of it was just strange. I am glad the tightie whitie pictures were not there when I was. LOL

    Love your NYC inspired painting.

Thanks Corinne. Also nice to see I’m not alone in my opinion about the MoMA.

Wonderful painting of the couple in Paris :).

Oh I’d love to visit the MOMA and see that Warhol of Marilyn Monroe. Yes, much of the modern works can leave you scratching your head. Good to stretch your expectations a bit, though.

    😉

As much as I wasn’t blown away by the MoMA, I’m still glad I went and it was still interesting to see the works there. I hope you get a chance to go one day.
